Extractions: We have just completed the extraction of timber (a mixture of very large Oak, Beech and Sycamore) from a road construction site at Smithton, Inverness. This timber was all earmarked for fire-wood, until the tree-surgeon felling the trees informed the site that there was more advantage to turning the timber into usable boards than burning it all.

Similarly, we are in initial discussions with another site on the West coast for the extraction of in the region of 60-70 hardwood trees. We will keep this page updated for the development of this project.

Some of the timber from the Smithton site has already been milled and is now in the kiln – there looks to be around 4.5m3 of prime kiln dried Oak due to be finished during week commencing 30 July. This stock is all around the 35mm thickness.

Our last kiln load was about the same volume of Beech mainly from the Kirkhill area, west of Inverness. A mixture of clean and flamey beech of varying widths and lengths.

Storage is now becoming a problem at our yard. However, we are looking at moving our home to an area of around two to three acres in the Kirkton Wood area, just opposite the Golf course outside Lochcarron. We will have a purpose made and secure storage area for logs, air drying timber all under cover. More news of this will become available of the next few months.

We have manufactured a bench for the viewpoint looking over Lochcarron which is awaiting the opportunity to be installed next week.
